I have noticed my shopping bill increases every week as well. If this keeps up i might have to start using shopping coupons! Not that there is anything wrong with that. I have noticed the odd thing i get has gone up a full dollar, that's a big jump in one hit. And it gets me how milk can go down a full dollar some weeks. Gas i don't even want to talk about lol. Has others noticed your shopping bill increasing more and more?

Same here and yes the milk gets me! we have the same thing some weeks its over a dollar cheaper, they must be making a profit because the milk is not about to expire so how much are they ripping us off? I don't want to talk about fuel as well :-( because if i start i will not stop!

Our fuel here is a bit cheaper than it was this time last year..at the moment its $1.28/litre  (which I think works out at about $4.87 / gallon in the US...does that sound right?)

last year it was $1.65/litre

i buy 14 packets of 500g "you'll love coles" frozen peas & corn every fortnight for my ratties. three years ago, they were $1.50 a pack and have been progressively been going up ever since. two years ago, the price jumped 20c/pack, then they went down 10c. three weeks ago, they were $2.29/pack. last thursday, they were $2.59/pack!!! i was so outraged i emailed coles and told them what i thought of their ever-increasing prices... btw, coles is busy advertising same prices across the state here in south australia.

in my email, i asked if their new pricing was now done to the highest common denominator, and said that i would now be shopping either at woolies or foodland.

got a response today:
"Dear Tanya

Coles is acutely aware of the need to offer our customers value through competitive pricing. We work very hard to regularly monitor prices to ensure we maintain competitive pricing and value for our customers.

Pricing is influenced by a wide range of factors including the prices suppliers charge us, seasonal factors including availability of and quality of product, transport and distribution costs, and various promotional activities offered daily by competitors in the marketplace.

We wish to advise that what seems to have happened here is that all the 500g Coles Mixed Veg products (inc Peas/Corn, Mix Veg, peas/corn/carrots) have been priced uniformly. Historically, there have been varying sell prices across this range. The buyer has advised that he will review and amend accordingly.

Thank you for your email. We appreciate the feedback and will continue to monitor this product, and all our products, to ensure that we remain price competitive.

We look forward to being able to assist you in the future.

Yours sincerely

Katie Bryce

i'll be looking at the frozen foods tomorrow as i go past, to see if anything has been done yet...

I wish we had an Aldi's near here...apparently they are a lot cheaper.

Coles & Woollies have been involved in a big spiel about lowering their prices...so they might lower something by 1 cent & put 5 cents on another.

I am honeslty finding budgeting harder & harder on the pension.

By the time my electricity, house insurances, car insurances, credit card, house repayments get taken out each fortnight, there is precious little left to do anything with.

ah yes, but your pensions are going up very soon... it was in the sunday mail so it must be true!!! unfortunately, the dole isnt going up. its been stuck on $460/fortnight for years...

i'm stuck in a permanent argument with my mother over the pension v the dole. once the raise kicks in, the single pension will be over $700/fornight, and then on top of that, my mother also gets almost $115/fortnight rent assistance, and she says she struggles!!! this is a woman who trots off overseas every year for at least four weeks...

i cant get it into her stupid head that she is almost $300/fortnight better off than i am (when i'm only getting the dole, but when i'm working, it drops considerably) and she cant understand why i'm not saving any money...

I'll have to look into the pension increases...I just know that last year when all the pensions went up, my hubby (who is on a totally & permanently incapacitated pension) didn't get any increase at all....apparently people on incapacitated pensions were out of their scope... s0095

Yes...just had a quick google...and it looks like we might be getting around $22 each extra per fortnight.

Well that should help towards his chemist bill, which is usually in the vicinity of $150 per month...but then once we get to about August each year, he qualifies for the free pharmaceutical, which is a huge relief.

Its all very well for the government to make big noise about these increases & pat themselves on the back...but the fact is...the cost of living is going up far more than these meagre increases.

And anyone struggling on a pension & trying to bring up kids...my sympathies go out to you all.

everything is going up here too apart from wages and benefits!!! Gas is now at $1.82 a litre. Last week it was 10 cents cheaper. Grocery bill always ends up nearer $200 a week than $100 and it certainly doesn't include chocolate and wine!!h0099 Toilet paper and other neccesities go up, but smokes and booze stay the same...something wrong with this picture....oh and what about the smaller packaging and higher price.....oh don't get me startedt0099

Didn't smokes go up almost $5 a packet last year?
