Last year, Chris and I bought 6.3 acres of land up near Show Low, east central Arizona in the White Mountains. A cool 6,500 feet elevation. It's a three hour drive from here, so we don't go all that often. There's not all that much to see when you arrive, although it is a gorgeous drive up there.
It's nice to have some land and the prices were pretty good. We probably won't build, we will keep it as an investment I guess for when the market improves. Here are a couple of photos we took yesterday. It was nice to get out of the house for a day.

oh how cool, thanks for the pics AG, my hubby was born in Phoenix and lived there until he was 9 then the family moved to Texas. He still has a Uncle living there and we hope to go see him in the near future. I am really excited about it, have always wanted to visit Arizona

I think you'll really like Arizona. I love it. I also lived in Nevada for a few years and it has a similar feel. We have some spectacular and spooky, gravity defying rock formations out here too.
But beware it's 109F today and getting hotter !

I could see a little ranch sitting on that land, the heat is a killer there isn't it?

Actually on our land, the elevation is 6,500 ft so it's much cooler than Phoenix. It gets covered in snow in winter.
We often discuss building a smallish cabin there, we run through styles and designs and positions on the land, but who knows? While I have a job in Phoenix, we're not there often enough to utilise it, (or keep it secure). It is something we would both love to do one day.
Chris and I adore Arizona, but the summer heat..... phew.
Here are some shots we took in December.

I think Hubby was meaning Phoenix gets hot, the snow looks beautiful but i love the snow and would love to live in an area where it snows each year.
NOT ALL YEAR round but some of the time.

I think that is why it appeals to us too. We could enjoy the snow up there and still have a snow-free Phoenix home as well! I lived in Chicago for just two winters but that was enough snow for me.

Snow is great fun when you have hot chocolate, Christmas carols and and a crackling fire. Not so much fun when you are trying to drive to work and you're skidding when you brake and the snow on the side of the road is a yukky grey colour and you're cold and miserable.
And I almost forgot; the jolting, earth shattering sound of the snow ploughs scraping along the roads at 4:30am....ahh memories!!
In Chicago, the first twenty minutes of the snow falling are gorgeous. And it kinda goes downhill from there :)
