We had to laugh as my misses used to be a governess on station and after a while they finally got schooling via the short wave.
Movie brought back some old memories.
wish most could also learn about the flying doctors and what a blessing they were to those on the stations (outback)

I remember back in the day, when the trucks had HF Radios and they had to have Flying doctor service as one of the channels.
I had the chance to visit the Flying Doctor headquarters and it is truly amazing, you can stand there and listen in as they do the classes.
I loved travelling out there, and like rggoodie it bought back lots of memories.. having a bath with a bucket was one... and no-one probably got the glass upside down, that is a pub tradition that you want to fight everyone in the bar, it is an all out brawl..

I remember the upside down glass from years of working in pubs i guess.
Flying Doctors is a great service for sure.

Not related to this topic, but Ms. Paul and I visited the Royal Flying Doctor Service on our trip to the Rock and Alice.
I didn't know this, but services provided by the FRDS to everyone is providedpaid by Medicare and free to the patients. Amazing stuff considering the remote places they go.Last edited on Mon Dec 15th, 2008 10:57 pm by Paul_564

I just watched this movie.
I wasn't going to, because of all the bad reports about it.But I loved it. Just goes to show, you shouldn't let other people's opinions of movies affect what you watch...I have watched lots of "highly recommended" stuff that I thought was crap.
I think the problem in Australia, is that many people are sick to death of the "stolen generation" thing sort of being targetted at us personally. People need to be more open-minded..it is a fact of history, it was the wrong thing to do. And when it is pointed out...we should not take it as a personal attack on us...we weren't the ones who did it, sure, but it still was so not the right thing to do.
Also, as far as the critics of Nicole Kidman...I think a lot of people might have missed the point...some of that 'stilted acting' she's been accused of, was actually, in my opinion anyway, a bit of comedy...a bit of a poke at the British stiff upper lip, compared with the aussie rough & tumble. And lots of it really made me laugh.
As far as the Aussie accents, though, I think they over-exaggerated them a lot, so yes, I can imagine other people not understanding them.
And the little boy stole my heart.
I was surprised how good I thought it was, because I started out with a negative attitude.

I am finally up with the times and saw the movie last night
To be honest I have been putting it off and moving it down my list on netflix because I didn't think it would be my kind of movie, but I was wrong, I enjoyed it. At the start I thought it was a bit corny, but got a good laugh when the kangaroos were jumping beside the vehicle and what happened there.
Had to explain a couple of things to D and Sadie, as in words used. I thought it was a little long but I did end up enjoying it. Will probably watch it again because I am sure I missed a few things.
