Hi Guys,
Sorry I haven't posted in ages.
The time has come for me to renew my Australian passport as it expires in December.
From what I can see I have to get some acceptable photos taken, fill out a PC7 form and mail it somewhere - is that all there is to it?
Has anyone got some experience in this area? Also, how long till you get your new passport?

Im not sure Mike i have not had to do this so far. But if your not sure and you dont get an answer from someone who has done this i would ring the Australian Embassy here in the States and check with them.
Hope all has been well with you.

This might be your best bet if not 100% sure as things change all the time with rules so your much better off getting an updated answer. But i would ring the Australian Embassy just to make sure you have it correct.

| I have to renew mine. It expires in July. They have changed the rules somewhat. Previously, you had to renew it 6 months before it expired, but not anymore. You even have up to 3 months or so after it has expired to renew it. Fill out the form, mail it with your passport, the $200 and photos, and they will mail it back within 2 weeks. This is what I was told by the Washington DC consulate. Well, what I can remember that is....

| Thats the problem with anything to do with immigration the rules get changed all the time and very hard to keep up with what is what, you can do something today and tomorrow its changed.

| I'm still trying - having a hell of a time getting a photo taken - I get blank looks wherever I go and try to explain the different photo requirements. Everyone I talk to flat out refused to take something outside their set guidelines for US passports.

| I've had my mine done at Walgreens. They even have a button on their photo console which says something like "Select country from list for photo requirements" I saw Australia there on the list and it has a special template they use to make sure it meets each country's requirements. So they'll take the photo as usual, digitally overlay the template on your photo on the screen and crop it to meet Australian guidelines and then print it out. East peasy.

My passport expired in March and I will be sending my stuff off shortly.
I phoned the Australian Embassy in Atlanta GA and spoke to a very friendly woman.
It is not a big deal but I do have to have more ruddy photos taken, I HATE having my photo taken.
Get pics, do it all online or send off form with said fee, easy peasy.

Cool, mine expires in a month.... that was one of the things I was going to do when I got back to Oz, but couldn't when the USCIS in its infinite wisdom wouldn't let me and flagged it!
Will look at CVS and hopefully get a passport pic done there.

| I had to do mine while i was there, I got the pictures done at CVS, and had to send my passport to St Albans Vermont, it took a few weeks from memory, I recently had to renew it here, and went to do it online and it told me my passport did not exist, i called the passport office, and because I renewed it in USA had to get the form sent out, I took it to the Post Office, they did the pictures and sent it away, 1 week later I had my new one.

If you go on the Aust Passport website, its now saying you have 2 years to renew your Passport!
I got my pics done at Walgreens and although just less than a month ago it expired, am ready to send my Passport off for renewal. Just out of curiosity, how do you send them the correct change when the currency fluctuates daily?? Tried an American cheque with $xxx 'Australian Dollars' written on it before and it got knocked back!

My guess would be to send it to an Aussie relative and have them write the cheque or cc and you pay them back. Doing that with my sister soon.
