Aaaaah just checked, it does say contact your nearest Australian Embassy. Joisus, that should make things a lot easier!
Unless of course they have taken a leaf out of the USCIS book of ineptitude and want a complete new set of Biometrics..... street, suburb, town, state and federal verification of my identity...... how often I trim my toenails and how long they are when trimmed...... how often would I shave my muff, if I had one..... what my pulse rate would be at 100 fathoms whilst being sucked to death by a pre historic sea slug.... would I orgasm after being super glued naked by the toenails to a wildly reciprocating ceiling fan and belted about the buttocks with a 5 week old Haddock..... did I orgasm when being sucked by the pre historic sea slug..... etc......

| I was going to suggest seeing the Embassy i couldn't see that you had to do it via Australia yourself.

Pretty easy. Got my photos done at Walgreens, called the Australian Embassy in Noo Yawk (talked to a POM of all people!) and he sent me the forms. Posted off along with old Passport, Credit Card payment form ($238 plus $15 Courier fee) and all was good.
Apparently you have 2 years to renew your Passport now.
