I'm no longer actively pursuing US citizenship. I guess I'll just keep renewing my Green card every ten years. The time has finally come to say "enough is enough" and pull the plug.
I'm tired, tired, tired of all the BS and getting the runaround.
This one's for you USCIS

Did they knock you back at all? Can you sit the test or are they running you around for no reason.

Oh it's been years. Never been offically denied, but nobody wants to take ownership of my file. Doesn't matter who I write to or how much noise I make, I cannot breach the official wall of silence and track it down. I've written to my congressman and my senator. They tried to crack it, but the INS is a secretive bureaucratic nightmare of dead ends, terminated employees and lost files.
It's like that wooden box in the final scene of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" My file is there somewhere, it just needs to be dusted off and stamped, but where is it??
The trouble started with my interviewing officer ( a 4'2" fanatically religious Filipina munchkin) We were literally in the last two minutes of the interview when she asks a seemingly innocuous question "You going to have children with your husband?"
She seemed extremely disturbed that I answered in the negative. I got to hear her speech on God and Jesus and the poor children and how selfish I am blah blah....... I suspect that after she pushed me out the door, my file went into the shredder.
My only sensible option would be to just start all over again, but I haven't got the patience any more.

Sorry that USCIS still hasn't been able to sort it all out for you.
My gut feeling is that sensible is good, given that it's usually so quick to get citizenship these days.
Of course I am biased, as my immigration journey has been smooth! But what a relief to have no more to do with USCIS, to be able to come and go to other countries without having a time limit or to keep track of your flight dates, and to be able to move without having to tell them about it.

Yes, many letters and phone calls to Senator McCain's office (I live in Arizona) and just as many letters to my congressman. They are very sympathetic of course and have manged to get a squeak or two from the INS, but it's like trying to fight a striding giant with a toothpick.
One day they'll find it. Who knows.

Oh yes, paid all the relevant fees (such a long time ago now, I think it was around $400 ?) Plus all the visits to get fingerprints, waiting in offices etc.
Ah well, I'm kinda philosophcal about it now. Citizenship is something I would dearly LIKE, but not something I actually NEED. Now if my 10 Green Card had been denied, THEN it would be panic stations. I get angry about it if I think about the way I've been treated and get bad headaches and resentful. I have to find a calm place to collect my thoughts when that happens.
You watch, one day in the future, I'll get an official email saying it's been approved. Then they can place that letter on my grave, cos I'll be long gone by then.
Yay citizenship approved by the United Confederation of Planets this glorious day of September 2124 !!

Oh I so agree it is none of her da*n business.
I would have been incensed at this invasion of personal privacy. I was not asked these type of questions and if I had I would have had my say.
I am so sorry you have been through such bull manure
