Short story; went for my INS meeting today. Some pea brain Gov't employee who could hardly communicate in English, ummed and ahhed and said "No, your file still in Las Vegas. I cannot help you" So, THREE years after putting in a change of address, they STILL haven't sent the file to Phoenix?
This went on for 15 minutes and he wouldn't budge."It's been years since I submitted my citizenship application, what is going on?" His reply (apart from nodding his head at inappropriate times as if that was substitute for a coherent answer) then mutters "You have to go to website"
Me : "Sir, I have BEEN to that website, it will NOT accept my case number" His reply "Sorry. That all l can do. Check the website"
(BTW His English really was that poor, I almost cried in horror when I saw who was behind the counter looking at me. And he just stared at me without blinking the whole time. It was like being interviewed by a fish)
So here I am, years down the track and this clown doesn't even want to make the slightest effort to find out what the holdup is.
Oh I tried, believe me. I show him all my paperwork; I show him the TWO change of address forms I filled out to have my file sent over; I show him the letter from Senator John McCain's Office requesting the file be sent to Phoenix. I show him the damn letter that says my file has ALREADY been sent to Phoenix.
His unblinking answer "Sorry. You go to website"
Cut to the important part. We finally spoke to a manager, she asked us pertinent questions, she seemed amazed and concerned at the delay. She said she will put in a priority request to Vegas to send the file to Phoenix and will contact us on Thursday.
She didn't seem convinced that we had actually done a change of address at all until she says "Did you fill out an AR-11?" And believe it or not, I actually had a copy of the damned thing with me. I also had a letter from a manager in the Phoenix office who confirmed the file had been sent to Phoenix. These two crucial documents seemed to be what it took to finally get some action happening.
Oh, but here's another goody. We told the manager about how this pea brain idiot kept trying to just fob us off to the INS website to check the case number. With a wave of her hand she says "Oh.. that never works. Hasn't for years. Doesn't matter what you enter, it doesn't come up with anything".
Am I holding my breath for a speedy solution? No.
I have a headache now.
BTW This little yellow icon describes exactly how today went.

At the end of the day they dont give a rats.
Your a better woman than me i would be spitting chips by now if it was me, and thats why my hubby handles all paperwork in our home, if it was left up to me i would get in all sorts of trouble with my mouth.
Lets hope you get this sorted out ASAP.

You poor ole gal...
Fortunately, we have only had one bad incident with INS. They scheduled us for an interview in St. Louis (we lived in Florida). I called the 800 number for the INS, and asked if this was correct, since we had put in an address change over a year earlier, and all files should have been in Miami. The "voice" on the other end said of course he was sure, we were scheduled for St. Louis, and if we missed that appointment, we could face all kinds of negative action. So I booked air tickets, rental car, and hotel. There was still a week to go, so I waited a couple days, then checked again at the St. Louis office. They said they didn't have our records, that they had been transferred to the Miami office, and under no circumstances could they do the interview in St. Louis. I explained to them about the letter I had received from INS, and the phone call I had made. To make a long story short.....I was just out the money for the airfare.---BASTARDS!!!---
I hope you eventually get this straightened out...sooner rather than later.

Don't you just love it when they one, don't understand you or two, they don't speak good enough English themselves.
Trying to talk to them half the time is the biggest nightmare on earth, i do hope this does get sorted out for you, and if you don't hear from them today get back on their backs!

Didn't hear from them on Thursday as they promised. They said they may call on Monday if they didn't do it by Thursday. Yeah right.
Believe me, I had an internal meltdown in the USCIS but there being armed guard and cameras everywhere, I just let the steam escape from my ears.

So have they given you the run around again or did they get back to you yesterday?
That lot needs to pull their heads in big time.

I never did hear from them again. No call on either of the days that they promised they'd be in touch. The so called "direct number" the manager gave us was just the general office number. So back to square one I go.
I'm convinced they had a problem with our marriage. The moron who interviewed me years ago never seemed to believe us. Eight wonderful years with Chris tells me otherwise.
Oh well, I could probably apply under my own now as I've been a Permanent Resident since 2002
But you know what, I've almost stopped caring about getting my citizenship now. The hassle just doesn't seem worth it.

With me its one day yes im going to go for Citizenship the next day no im not.
I have a PR 10 year card, i think i will wait a bit longer and see how i feel, my passport doesnt run out for another 5 years so whats the hurry all i will be doing is forking out more money if i did do the Citizenship thing now.
I wouldnt vote even if i could so thats no biggy to me and the only other thing Citizenship at the moment would give me is the fact i wouldnt have to notify them of any change of address.
For the cost and the hassle its just not worth it to me.
