My 2 yr card expired in June and I did all the correct paper work and money etc and had biometrics done in May ( 6 hour drive to Charlotte)
Went online and couldnt find my form number to check so rang several times and only got auto voice and was getting very frustrated. Im going home in Febuary and need papers to re enter.
Finally in August I got a real person and they said check back after 180 days.
So on 6th November rang and after several attempts got a person who then put me through to a supervisor and I was getting a bit scared, but he asked me if I had received a letter saying I had been transferred to Raleigh-Durham.....NO
He then asked if I had received a letter saying they were 12 months behind and I would need to wait till April 2009 to expect anything........NO
I explained I need something to get me back in USA after holiday and he told me I need this letter so I asked if they could send it to me..........NO
He said he could but it would be quicker to make an appointment online and go to RDU (3 hrs drive) and get it and also get my passport stamped and that will allow me to come back.
So am going on thursday 13 th Nov and hopefully it will not be a wasted trip.

I was talking to immigration on Friday, have they changed their way or something as i got a real nice helpful woman for a change.
I was bad and forgot to change my address so had to take care of that and then i got all worried because of hubby being in another State and if my interview was to come up before i moved what would happen....ohhh the joys.

| I am sure they will get that letter to you in time. I had no problem at all when I did mine last year. They sent me that letter just in case but I had the card without another interview within a few weeks and in time for me to travel to Aus last November. Good luck Sunny. Oh yea I am thrilled that you are going home, will be lots of fun with the girls going too!!!

Had my little 3 hour trip to Durham today and man says oh we can only stamp your passport for 3 months so you will have to come back in jan or feb.
"Well" says I "I have driven 3 hours in the rain for you to tell me that , and i spoke to a supervisor last week who advised me to make this appointment and come here for you to fix it up >>>>>>>>
He said just a minute while I try something else and after fiddling on computer for about 5 minutes he says I will stamp it for you for 12 months .
Well I thanked him (profusly) and as I got up to leave he took my Permanant Resident card and said you wont need this any more.
So I drove home and now I'm going to bed.

Hi Tambo, It had already expired in June and I had reapplied for 10 yr card back in April. They told me no hope of getting it until after April 2009 as they are 12 months behind.
I was supposed to get a letter advising me that my 2 yr card had been extended for another year as did another couple of people on this site but mine never arrived.
I am a limbo alien ha ha but i can leave the country and get back in with the big stamp he put in my passport.

OH, OK.. was wondering.. I had the stamp in my passport while waiting for my Permanent resident card to start.... it would be OK if Immigration knew how to read in Vermont at the checkpoint to go to Canada...

I am not an American Citizen, so it is just like being a tourist... did I mention the fact that when I go to Canada I haul Hazardous Waste in a Semi.... I get questioned because I am a Permanent Resident... and they check that I have been a good boy and no warrants ect.. they don't want to get stuck with deporting me...
