I have John Williamson doing the song and both that song and his 'This is Australia Calling' and of course 'True Blue' always turn on the waterworks.
God love my Missus... she knows how much I love and miss home and is always there for a cuddle and a comfort.

Actually I agree with you there. Its not just a patriotic song, but very poingant as well. I remember it being played a lot during the whole 9/11 thing.
I guess its the American equivilant to 'True Blue'.
And as much as I haaaaaate Country Music (the missus just loves it), I think Lee Grenwood does a beautiful job of that song.

yeah, it was not really considered a patriotic song when it came out, but when 9/11 happened, it became much more popular in that vein.
"butterfly kisses" always reminds me of my kids when it plays....I don't get to see them often, and that song really tugs at me...as I was around them all the time when they were little.

Good grief the song I just cant stand to listen to because I'm here and my son is in WA... is 'Cats in the Cradle' by Harry Cahpin (or Ugly Kid Joe - take your pick).
I break down and bawl every time.
God I miss that bugger - my son, not Harry Chapin.

yeah, harry chapin does a great job with that song, and I think any parent that has a son, when that song is played, can't help but have a few tugs at the heart strings

I miss all three of my younguns.....an they all live here in the states, but they might as well be a million miles away, cause I just don't get the chance to see them very often. Sometimes there are too many songs on the radio that make you reflect too much about the kids, and then I just can't listen anymore; have to turn it off for a while. You can always pick up the phone and talk to them, but I find that when I do, I'm just so thrilled to hear their voice that I just sit and listen....i'm sure they think I'm bored, but I'm just listening to them......

Mate, I hear ya loud and clear.
Tough to keep the chin up sometimes innit??
Changing the tone a little.... the missus and I picked a song each to get married to. She picked 'I loved you before I met you' by Aussie band Savage garden and I picked 'You had me from hello' by Kenny Chesney.

kinda ironic isn't it, you don't like country music, and picked a country song, and she likes country and picked a rock group, lol
